Previously titled Random Pics of the Week, A year in Pictures is a ongoing project that begun as a my personal photo diary. It all started during my senior photography class in high school. Just like any other photography class, we each created a blog that exemplified our photographic skills. Each project served to create a portfolio. But being the overachiever that I am, I decided to create a separate portfolio.
Random Pics of the Week contained pictures I thought were great but I couldn’t exactly use for my class, as they didn’t meet the requirements. (I now realize I was just being an egotistical amateur photographer, who still had tons to learn!)
But because the pictures were ‘random,’ I began to feel unsatisfied with my work. Most of the pictures were trivial and didn’t hold any value for me. I felt like I was posting pictures on Instagram (no offence to any Insta lovers.) But I soon began to grow lazy and post meaningless ‘photographs.’ Months would pass at a time without posting anything. Looking back I realize that my problem for not finishing lay further than just lack of commitment. It lacked of purpose. I know. It sounds corny…
Since my pride wouldn’t let me give in, I turned around and decided to commit! I changed the name of this project, and decided to only share the pictures that hold true to my heart. I figured the world was already filled with trivial photographs, it didn’t need me to add more. And so it began.
What lays below is a personal journal. I am proud and happy to share with the world what I have learned in the course of a year, and the wonderful people and places I’ve managed to capture.
It’s amazing how much a person can change in a few months. In the course of a year, I’ve learned so much through the help of friends, youtube, and random strangers who happened to own a DSLR camera. So, I thank everyone who was patient with my struggle to capture the perfect shot.
A year in Pictures is a personal photo capsule whose purpose is to freeze a year at a time, in hopes to capture an epic ever growing journey!
